An Avengers: Infinity War behind-the-scenes feature depicts a deleted scene between Thanos and Iron Man that could shed new light on the ever-mysterious Soul Stone.
The Soul Stone is at the crux of many, many fan theories regarding Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 because it’s the biggest unknown from the movie. Unlike all the other stones depicted in the MCU, the audience doesn’t know its the lengths and limitations of it’s powers, what feats it can accomplish, and what importance, if any, it has to the story going forward because the audience had never seen it used. All the MCU faithful knows is that Gamora had to die for Thanos to get it and it grants you the power to go to a hidden, orange tinted pocket dimension where you may or may not see someone that is important to you. But thanks to a newly released BTS feature from Avengers: Infinity War that includes deleted scenes from the instant classic spectacle, fans possibly have new clues about what the Soul Stone can actually do.
Everyone remembers The Battle on Titan, most specifically the moment when Iron Man goes mano a mano with Thanos. And in the midst of the battle, The Mad Titan coyly references that he knows of Stark which takes Stark aback. Many have pondered how and why the dredge of the cosmos knew a relatively insignificant earth-bound man but this deleted scene shows a slightly different take. The setting is still the same and Thanos and Iron Man are still posturing but the dialogue is slightly different. Thanos, in this version, says that he knows Stark’s “soul.” The video is shown below:
Considering the context and the fact that Thanos, in the movie, had just acquired the Soul Stone, it’s a rather loaded phrase. Thanos may very well have been indicating that the Soul Stone grants the abilities to look into someone’s, well, soul. Huh, makes sense when you think about it.
Like all deleted scenes, this isn’t cannon but it is interesting that the creative team behind Avengers: Infinity War may at one time have been thinking of including this line and possible allusion to the stones powers. And while the scene is interesting to see, it only leaves with more questions – rather than answers. Avengers 4 can’t come soon enough!
A culmination of 22 interconnected films the fourth installment of the Avengers saga will draw audiences to witness the turning point of this epic journey. Our beloved heroes will truly understand how fragile this reality is and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it.”
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Infinity War is now available on home video formats with a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Danai Gurira, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, and Chris Pratt.
Avengers 4 is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 3, 2019.
10 Marvel & DC Villains Who Can Take Down Thanos
Thanos may have just taken down some of Marvel’s finest superheroes in Avengers: Infinity War, but he’s not the deadliest villain in comics. Both DC and Marvel are full of characters who are more powerful than the Mad Titan.
Admittedly, whenever Thanos is in possession of all six infinity stones he is the most powerful being in the universe, but anyone can harness that power if they successfully gather all the necessary components. If anything, Thanos is just incredibly patient and willing to wait to achieve his goals, a trait not many supervillains in DC or Marvel have. With the gauntlet, Thanos is essentially an immortal God who can snap his fingers and turn entire worlds to dust, but without it he’s just another villain who wants to rule the universe. He’s clearly a strong and terrifying guy, but if he were to face any of these villains without his Gauntlet, Thanos would be in big trouble.
