Mark Waid Is Willing To Write A ‘Superman’ Movie, Already Has A Story

Birthright Superman

Comic book writer Mark Waid has revealed that he’d be willing to write a Superman movie for Warner Bros. and even has a story ready to go.

Superman is one of the most iconic characters in the world but he’s had a pretty rocky Hollywood career. After being the subject of two iconic films starring Christopher Reeves, the Superman franchise took a dive with the two sequels that followed. 2006’s Superman Returns was supposed to be a revitalization of the franchise but wound up being a very polarizing film and it would be 7 years before the Kryptonian would star in a big screen film again.

2013’s Man of Steel has a large fan base but has yet to get a proper sequel in favor of Henry Cavill’s Superman showing up in ensemble superhero films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. While fans continue to clamor for another solo Superman film starring Cavill, it turns out that not only is comic book writer Mark Waid willing to write a Superman film, but he already has a story prepared. While speaking with The Fanboy Podcast recently, Waid had this to say about writing a Superman film:

“Sure. I mean, that would never happen. So it’s really easy for me to say ‘Yes.’ But sure. That’d be interesting.”

At first, he said he didn’t know how he’d approach the story, but Waid then revealed that he has a story ready to go:

“I’d take a swing at something like that. I don’t know what my story would be. Actually, that’s not true. I know exactly what my story would be. But I can’t give it away. It’s the one Superman story I’ve got in my back pocket that- if we all live long enough- maybe someone will ask me to tell it someday.”

Waid is known for writing stories such as Kingdom Come,  Superman: Birthright, Age of Apocalypse, and various issues of Captain America, The Flash, and Metamorpho. Though a follow-up to Man of Steel has been rumored for quite a while, nothing official has been announced just yet. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Man of Steel 2 as more information becomes available.
