The CW President Offers Status Update On The ‘Batwoman’ TV Series

Batwoman DC ComicsCW president Mark Pedowitz provided an update on the status of the network’s developing Batwoman series at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

Last month, it was reported that The CW was developing a Batwoman series set to follow the DC heroine’s debut in this year’s Arrowverse crossover event. Now, CW president Pedowitz has offered an update on the show, stating that Greg Berlanti is still in the early stages of development and a pilot will be produced for the mid-season:

“We’ll do a pilot for mid-season, whether it goes to series, I cannot tell you. We have five (DC shows) on the air and just added a sixth night.”

The official description of the series notes that Batwoman will have demons to overcome and when asked if he could rule out the DC character as a possible villain, Pedowitz replied, “I can’t even answer that question.”

Here’s the official logline for the Batwoman series:

Batwoman revolves around Kate Kane, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) is writing the script and executive producing the series while Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions and Geoff Johns are also on board as executive producers.

Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the project as it develops!
