Tom Hardy & Ruben Fleischer Discuss ‘Venom’ MPAA Rating

There are a number of questions that fans have regarding the Venom movie as its release date grows closer and closer. One of the biggest questions that fans have about the film is whether or not it will be rated R. The footage so far has teased a very action-packed monster pic with a heavy focus on horror. Footage at Comic-Con described Venom eating a man’s head off, which was cut out of the latest trailer, but there’s still no word yet on the film’s official rating.

Star Tom Hardy and director Ruben Fleischer recently sat down with Total Film magazine to discuss many things about Venom. One of the topics was the MPAA rating the film was going to carry when it hits theaters. Fleischer remained tight-lipped on the issue and doesn’t seem so sure of the rating himself, explaining:

“We’re curious to see where it’ll land.

But we pushed the envelope as far as we possibly could in terms of just making it the most true to the comics version of the film that we could. He’s a character that goes around biting people’s heads off and eating brains. So we tried to respect that as much as we could.”

Hardy then elaborated on the topic without giving a concrete answer as well, though he did echo the sentiment of trying to capture the essence of the character:

“You want to reach as big an audience as possible with one of these movies, because they’re good fun. My son steered me onto Venom. There would be things I would probably cover his eyes for. It depends how sensitive a nine-year-old’s parents are. It’s not my place to say. I don’t really know what [rating] they’re going to give it. But, it can pivot to either/or, if that makes sense. The IP lends itself to gore, and it also lends itself to a black comedy action thriller, as well.”

Sony is looking at Venom to inspire a whole new cinematic universe with Spider-Man characters that the studio owns, though seemingly without Spider-Man himself for the time being. Hopefully, it works out because fans have been waiting to see Venom on the big screen properly for a while now. We’ll keep you updated on all news regarding Venom as more information becomes available.

10 Superheroes You Didn’t Know Were In The Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four MembersIt may sound counter-intuitive, but the Fantastic Four has had more than four members over the years. Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and The Thing are the core of the team, but various superheroes have joined Marvel’s first family over the years. While they may be a superhero team, the Fantastic Four are closer to a group of explorers who have to rely on each other and use their wits to get out of sticky situations.

Whether the core members are lost in space or Reed and Susan just need some time away to work on their marriage, the Fantastic Four still have responsibilities. Crime never sleeps, and without the Fantastic Four keeping the world safe, even more villains would hatch their villainous plots. Whether it’s The Thing or someone else yelling, “it’s clobbering time,” the truth stands that the Fantastic Four will always be there to save the day.
